Storage Racks
With the ever-increasing love for wine, the
result is an increase in the number of bottles that we maintain in
our homes. However, there is only so much room for wine, before the
house becomes cluttered and dangerous. If things continue, a stubbed
toe or broken bottle could lead to tears, regrets, and hospital
bills. For those who suffer from this silly dilemma, there are wine
storage racks.
Wine storage racks have been around for centuries, so they're new to
very few people. However, very few vinophiles have invested in this
unique furniture for a melody of reasons. The first of these is
expense.
It used to be that wine storage racks were created only by craftsmen
and only of the finest hardwoods, necessitating a high market value.
This is no longer a truism, however, and the prices of racks for
vino have dropped considerably. As well, part of this drop is due to
a shift in materials used to construct this furniture. Now racks are
constructed not only of wood, but of special plastics (some of which
are quite comely, contrary to intuition), of metal, and even
particle board, though most things created from this latter material
have a very definite lifetime, particularly in the presence of
humidity and other forms of moisture.
Another reason that units for vino storage have not been so popular
to consumers is that in the past wine was only affordable to the
affluent -at least, for any wine worth storing. Today the price of
good wine has gone down as new vineyards seemingly open nearly every
day, particularly on the west coast of the United States and in
Australia, both countries which are gaining great headway in the
world of wine.
The other aspect that has probably most curtailed the sales and
production of wine storage racks is that most people simply are
unaware of the more modest, less space imposing racks that are also
sold. This is in part due to a lack of marketing (or merely
selective marketing) on the part of these manufacturers and their
sales outlets. However, as wine and viniculture expand, the remedy
will work its way to the forefront.
